On Monday Year 5 students from Nivki and Pechersk campuses in Kyiv went on an exciting residential trip to the Carpathian Mountains. Such activities are arranged every year and during the trip students are challenged to build their independence and risk-taking abilities as they take part in a series of new experiences designed to develop their self-management, communication and social skills.
Of course, this trip is not all hard work, students also get a chance to laugh and play with their peers, strengthening and building up their friendships across campuses as they work together to tackle various challenges and activities put before them.
Throughout the course of the trip students get a chance to visit Mukachevo town center, have a historical tour of the town and visit the Palanok Castle. From Mukachevo students travel to the Reikartz Hotel where they spend the rest of their trip. The Reikartz Hotel works with the school staff to set up a number of activities for the students to participate in such as scavenger hunts, hiking, survival adventures, wood carving, biking, a rope course and much more. The hotel also has a pool and games rooms for the students to enjoy in their evenings before bed.
Both teachers and parents agree, that students who have gone on this trip have grow in their ability to be more independent, confident and resilient. We also believe that this is an excellent opportunity to not only teach our students about being balanced but also about how learning can happen in many places, not just inside the classroom.
