Christmas Initiatives Supported Children in Need

9 Jan 2018

During the winter holiday season in December of 2017 there was a christmas tree standing at the reception area of each of the British International School campuses in Kyiv. And every day new presents appeared underneath. Their number grew bigger and bigger with each day. And it was not Santa Claus who was bringing them in dozens, but students, parents and teachers. They all joined the school’s initiative to support the less fortunate children in our community and provide presents for Christmas holidays.

Nivki Primary and Nivki Secondary schools arranged the Happy Christmas Tree where one could find Happy Cards that could be taken in exchange for a present put under the Christmas tree. Dozens of presents, donated by the school community were taken to the children at “Berizka” Kiev City Orphanage and the Kyiv City Oncological Centre.

Pechersk school joined the Ukrainian Humanitarian Initiative coordinated and supported by Year 7.1 and contributed craft items for children in a number of institutions of Cherkasy region: Shelter for children deprived of parental care, “Warm House” regional center for social and psychological rehabilitation of children, Boarding school for children with mental disabilities and vision impairments, Regional children’s sanatorium “Pine forest” for children with general illnesses, Regional children’s sanatorium “Prolisok” for children with pulmonary diseases, Children’s department of the regional neurological dispensary, Sergiy and Lesya Garmashiv family-type children’s home and other foster families.

Generous contributions to both initiatives were made by the Embassies of Romania and United Arab Emirates in Ukraine.

We are grateful to all who participated in these initiatives.
