Primary School Three Way Goal Setting Conferences
The Primary School at Nivki and Pechersk campuses in Kyiv is holding the three way goal setting conferences that take the form of a conversation between the student, their parents and their teacher, with each person having an equal role. Students asses their strong sides and areas where they achieved progress as well as ares that require further development. The same analisys is done by the class teacher. Two assessments are discussed among the student, the parents and the teacher and on that basis a mutual agreement is reached regarding the learning and development goals for the whole school year.
Three-way goal setting conferences are an important part of the PYP. They are designed to:
- teach students the process of reflection and self-evaluation;
- facilitate the development of students oral communication skills and to increase their self-confidence;
- encourage students, parents, and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue;
- encourage students to accept personal responsibility for their learning;
- empower the students;
- increase parent understanding of their child’s learning through the reporting process.
