On Tuesday the Primary School football team from Pechersk campus took part at the Junior Soccer Tournament, organised between four international schools in Kyiv, and won third place. Oleksiy Zagorodnyuk from Year 6 was recognised as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Each team consisted of 7 players and 1 goalkeeper from Years 4-6. According to the rules two girls had to be present on each team consistently throughout the game. Each team played three games against other schools. 3 points were awarded for a win, 1 point was awarded for a tie and no points were awarded for a loss.
Students from the British International School Ukraine demonstrated great enthusiasm and determination in each game. They played as a team and showed good individual skills of controlling the ball, dribbling, passing and kicking. They went home tired but happy and satisfied.
Taking part in similar tournaments is a great opportunity for the students to challenge themselves, to support each other, to learn discipline and the importance of teamwork. They develop sportsmanship and learn how to show determination and accept failure. Students learn the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
