The Big Water Bottle Competition at BISU

20 Jun 2019

In term three, the Eco Committee of British International School Ukraine decided to host a water bottle competition to encourage the students to use water bottles instead of wasting paper cups. We wanted to raise awareness that plastic can harm the Earth. Our main focus was to minimize the use of plastic and paper cups. This will help us to achieve our goal of gaining our Eco Flag.

Every morning, during form time, members of the Eco Committee went to each class from Year 7- 12 and counted the number of students and the number of water bottles that had been bought in. Then we converted that as a percentage. Once we had the percentage, we went down to the Eco Board, wrote the percentage and let the students see what each of their classes had achieved. The class that had the highest percentage got a movie afternoon.

The class that had the highest percentage of water bottles every day was 8.1. We watched a movie, “Private Peaceful” because we read the novel in English.

The water bottle competition was a success because during the course of the competition there was a rise in the number of students that were bringing in water bottles. However, now that the competition has finished, that number has started to decrease again.

Please remember to bring water bottles to school and help save the environment!

Wania, Year 8.1
