On Tuesday, May 22, British International School Ukraine Year 2 students from the Pechersk School invited other Primary students and their parents to their production called “The Musicians of Bremen”.
“It was a story with songs about an old donkey who wanted to go to the city of Bremen to be a musician”, – tells Ksenia from Year 2. – “The donkey met a cat and a dog and a cockerel. They jumped into a robbers house on the way and stayed there singing happily ever after”.
Students learned the Unit of Inquiry ‘How We Express Ourselves’ with its central idea ‘Imagination extends our ability to think, create and express ourselves’. During lessons students used their imagination when reading and writing. They used their thinking skills when creating stories and characters and reflected on how just as poetry has ‘no rules’ that creating new places, characters and story lines is limitless due to our imagination. When expressing themselves in the production the characters learned how to be more like the animal or a robber by using their imagination and getting into the role.
“The production this year was a great success both the process and the end product”, – says Mr.Carl Holden, Year 2 teacher. – “Students were great communicators during the performance and showed enthusiasm, responsibility and were true risk takers. The show has given us chance to reflect on a wonderful year of learning, appreciate all the hard work we have done and the progress we have made in our inquiries’.
