Surely many of us believe that dolls are a purely childish, girlish hobby. In fact, art and souvenir doll have long been a chic interior decoration. In ancient times the dolls had even more significance for human society since they performed a ritual or even mystical functions…
As a part of the project “Toys in a person’s life”, students of Years 2 and 4 of The British International School in Dnipro visited the Gallery of the handiwork dolls, where they received a unique chance to plunge into the fabulous wonderful world and get acquainted with the works of folk artists.
Students discovered the doll as a real work of art, from which it is impossible to take your eyes off, they saw dolls of the past and even dolls – “artists” of the children’s puppet theatre!
Students had the opportunity to take part in a workshop where each of them independently made a traditional motanka doll – a Ukrainian family amulet, a traditional symbol of happiness, harmony and goodness.
The children really enjoyed the tour, they are eager to come to the Gallery for the next workshop!
