Voices Around the World

Recently, our students took part in ‘Voices Around the World’ — an excellent international initiative that connects young people from all over the world through music, encouraging global solidarity and comprehension

Each year the project’s masterminds create a song specifically for schools, youth organisations, and young individuals worldwide to learn and perform. Their recordings are compiled to make and release a final version of the video that features the voices of numerous students from schools and youth organisations located in 65 countries around the globe.

This year’s selection, ‘With This Hope In My Heart’, has been written especially for the project by Howard Jones. A British legendary musician, singer and songwriter, he is planning to mark 40 years of making music with a tour across the United Kingdom later this year.

Our students deserve our utmost admiration for showcasing their exceptional talents and rendering a captivating performance of this inspiring song, both in a professional studio and online.

Their accomplishment is a testament to their dedication and hard work overseen by Nazar Moklyak, a highly proficient vocal coach and opera singer who has graced the stage of Kyiv’s Opera House for more than 5 years. Nazar’s extensive repertoire comprises globally recognised masterpieces such as Mozart’s Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Verdi’s Macbeth, La Traviata, Aida, Nabucco, Don Carlos, Maiboroda’s Yaroslav the Wise and others.

Our special thanks go to BISU superstars!

Also, we would like to express our deep appreciation to all of our colleagues who contributed to implementing this project, even amidst the frequent disruptions caused by air raids during rehearsals. Despite the immense challenges we faced, we were able to successfully accomplish our objective, thanks to the commitment and resilience of each and every person involved.

Laurie Lewin, the project’s director says: “What an amazing effort by you all — such a team effort and, a tremendous victory for you all given the circumstances. It is always wonderful when members of the community step up to help, especially someone as skillful and talented, thank you, Nazar. Looking at the videos and listening to your superstar students …we think they are all heroes. We think they are all totally amaaaaaaaazing!”

David Cole, BISU Principal adds: “It really is a great achievement, bring together the children physically in school and those online. It is a challenging task for schools under normal conditions and our children have so much more with which to contend at this time. However, they showed the resilience, character, determination and talent which has come to characterise BISU students. It was also lovely to see our staff team working together…those that have stayed in Ukraine leading the project and supported by those outside the country. BISU as one team that distance cannot divide!”

We do hope that our students had a great time participating in the project and learning the song. Music is not only a fun and engaging way to learn and express oneself, but it also helps develop important skills such as teamwork, communication, and creativity.
