On Monday, 15 January Year 6 students from Nivki and Pechersk campuses participated in a joint whole day workshop that gave start to the PYP Exhibition. It is an eight week Unit of Inquiry that will be designed, planned, organized and presented by the students. Participating in the Exhibition is an exciting opportunity to showcase the skills and understandings that they have developed over their years at Primary school and demonstrate to the school community their capabilities as responsible and independent learners.
For the Exhibition students will be conducting their own inquiry into an important issue that shows their understanding of an aspect of the central idea. At the workshop on Monday students were assigned into work groups of 3 or 4, that were arranged on the basis of interest. During the inquiry process each group needs to work collaboratively and meet at least once a week with their mentor. Each group was assigned a mentor teacher, whose role is to provide guidance and suggestions. Each group will develop its Central idea, which will link all of the interests in their group together and develop its Lines of Inquiry. Each group member will be responsible for investigating one Line of Inquiry.
Students will be assessed throughout the entire Exhibition by teachers and classmates and will be marked on all areas of their performance including their planning, organizing, commitment and enthusiasm all being as important as the final product. Throughout the Exhibition they will be communicating with each other, reflecting together and taking responsible action both individually and as a class. They will be guided by their teachers and other adults.
The Exhibition Unit of Inquiry will cover 8 weeks and will culminate in the Exhibition which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 25th-26th.
