Monday, October 30th was certainly not the best day to participate in a 3.5 km cross country race. It was raining almost all day and the temperature dropped to 4°C which felt more like 0°C. However, despite the wintry weather, five students of The British International School Ukraine, Nivki Secondary campus, participated in the annual cross-country competition organised by Kyiv School Sports League and competed with students from other international schools in Kyiv.
The event took place at the Holosiivsykyi National Nature Park. Students from Years 7-8 ran 3.5 km. The route was rather complicated, full of high hills and steep descents, sometimes very wet and slippery after several days of rain. All students showed great determination and effort with one of our students leading most of the race, but eventually three students from other schools were first to the finish.
Taking part in competitions provides students with an opportunity to challenge themselves, to set targets, to support each other and to know the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. They develop sportsmanship and learn how to accept failure and show determination.
