Young Engineers: Now We Know How to Build a Car!

LEGO kits are well known for generations.
Today LEGO offers specially designed programs to develop important skills, such as interest in learning and active cognition of the world, time management, discipline, teamwork and communication skills, practical understanding and ability to explain the laws of physics and mechanics, balanced behavior. The newest educational methodology helps to organize the process in such a way that children do not even suspect that they are learning.
The students of the 2nd class of The British International School had a chance for such an interesting pastime – on the Nivki campus under the guidance of a coach they assembled a mechanized model of LEGO car!
Classes were held in several steps:
- Theoretical cognitive part of 10-15 minutes – the topic of the lesson is explained to children, using examples and stories, so that it is clear how the physical law or phenomenon manifests itself, where it can be met and how it works. Result: the child understands more about the world and how everything works.
- Creating a model – students make models under the guidance of a coach. The child learns to make a model step by step according to the instructions, selecting the necessary details. In the constructed model, a physical law or phenomenon is clearly manifested. Result: development of attentiveness, sequence of actions, hand motility skills.
- Improving the model – at this stage we train the creative thinking, we need to improve the existing model, do some experiments to test the capabilities of the model. Children learn not only to follow the instructions, but also to improve the existing one. Result: the development of creative thinking and creativity
- Disassembly of the model – children learn to put things to rights, to disassemble the model and organize details in the box. Result: training to maintain in order the workplace.
It was a learning and enjoyable team building experience.
